We move into a new day with a new King… Just like that….

We’ve got a few more hours of rough weather out there, so just be careful and stay out of the water! Unless of course you’re a surfer… they never stay out of the water.

Earl beginning to pull away from the island…TROPICAL STORM WARNING IN EFFECT

It’s pretty messy out there, but Bermuda comes through the storm without being smashed by a hurricane. And that’s a good thing.

Hurricane Earl is beginning to gradually move away from the island. Tropical storm force winds will linger for the next few hours and with possible storm force gusts in heavy showers and widespread rain as rain bands linger over the region. Dangerous seas with rip currents and hazardous surf will begin to diminish later today. Conditions will begin to rapidly improve towards midday with drier and sunnier weather expected from this afternoon.

High near 29°C/85°F

Humidity – 89%

Been looking for a breeze the entire summer… Sigh …..Winds northwesterly 25 to 35 knots gusts to 45 knots, backing west-northwesterly and easing 15 to 25 knots by afternoon, then westerly 10 to 15 knots towards the evening

Seas inside the reef 3 to 5 ft… Outside the reef 8 to 18 ft, decreasing during the afternoon

Hurricane Earl . Bermuda

Just walking out in the dark this morning, you can tell there is a hurricane approaching. The air is thick and salty and there is roar as the surf builds on the south.

Earl is still on a path that will go past Bermuda and not give us too bad of a hit, although any hit is bad if you’re an avocado. Quite amazing and also very lucky. It is a strong Category 3 going into a Cat 4 as it passes us.

It’s a great day to get out there to capture the ocean, but do so early as the rain is forecast to come later today.

Waves presently outside the reef 6 to 12 ft, increasing to 12 to 25 ft by this evening.

We will be taking the brunt of the winds tonight. (Hate night storms): Winds northeasterly 25 to 35 knots gusts to 45 knots, increasing 35 to 45 knots with gusts to 55 knots overnight and briefly increasing 40 to 50 knots gusting to 60 knots especially over eastern and elevated areas and backing north-northwesterly and decreasing 25 to 35 knots with gust to 45 knots towards dawn.

Closest point of approach to Bermuda is forecast to be 104 nm to the SE, 11 pm Thu, Sep 8, 2022. However, this system may move closer to Bermuda after this time period depending upon its track.

Current Position:27.7N 65.5W approx. 279 nm S of Bermuda Recent Movement:N or 05 degrees at 8 kt

Central Pressure:970 mb / 28.64 in

Max Winds:85kt gusts 105kt

Take precautions, because that wind is going to be high enough to do damage to anything that is loose… And prepare to lose your electricity…. Sigh…..

Thanks to the Bermuda Weather Service for all they do to keep us storm informed! They are awesome!

Fun in the sand. Warwick Long Bay

An early shower or two. Bermuda continues to monitor Earl`s progress.

(The future is looking brighter for Bermuda this morning. Love following hurricane predictions. It’s a crap shoot really, because these storms for all predictions will do what they want when they wants, and Bermuda has seen its fair share of these. However, today’s forecast is welcome. Earl passes to our east and at the moment we are on the outer edge of a Category 2 on Friday. And from there it is forecast to keep sailing on by.)

Aside from a few isolated showers, mostly fair weather continues for the moment under the influence of weak high pressure. However, during Thursday, conditions are expected to deteriorate rapidly as TS Earl, now a potential threat to Bermuda, approaches from the south. Slight to moderate seas build rough to very rough later this week due to long period swells associated with TS Earl.

High near 31°C/87°F

Humidity – 83%

Winds south-southwesterly 5 to 8 knots, tending to back southerly later

Seas inside the reef 1 to 2 ft… Outside the reef 3 to 5 ft.
